The Simla was a 5,884 gross ton ship, length 430ft x beam 49.3ft, one funnel, two masts, single screw, speed 15 knots, accommodation for 90-1st and 66-2nd class passengers. Built by Caird & Co, Greenock for the P & O Steam Navigation Co, she was launched on 13th Oct.1894 and was used on Indian services and trooping as required. On 2nd Apr.1916 she was torpedoed and sunk off Malta by the German submarine U.39 with the loss of 10 crew.The Ships List
